Information on moving your Z-Wave network from an older interface to the new SmartStick G3.

Overview

Moving your system from an older G1 or G2 Smartstick+ requires some updates to your system and plugins but is very easy to do! Below is a procedure to backup your current Z-Wave network and restore it to the new 700 series Z-Wave stick.

Requirements

  • HS4.1.16.0 or later
  • Z-Wave BETA 3.0.5.3
  • 500 or 700 series Z-Wave interface

Procedure

Backup/Restore procedure using the legacy version of Z-Wave, otherwise known as Z-Wave Core.

Update Plugin

  1. Navigate to Plugins→ Add
  2. Search for "z-wave"
  3. Install the HomeSeer Z-Wave plugin, BETA version 3.0.5.3
  4. Click Install and let the update finish.

Backup

  1. Go to Plugins→Z-Wave→Controller Management
  2. Expand your Z-Wave interface and go to Back Up this interface in the Actions drop-down menu.
  3. Clicking into the text box will allow you to rename the file. Do not remove the .nodes extension from the file name.
  4. Click Start when ready and you should see Done! when finished.
  5. The file is saved in HomeSeer/Data/Z-Wave.
  6. Shut down HS4 or your system (necessary for Ezzee users) and insert your new Z-Wave interface. Proceed to the restore procedure.

Restore

  1. Go to Plugins→Z-Wave→Controller Management
  2. Expand your Z-Wave interface and go to Restore a Network to this interface in the Actions drop-down menu.
  3. Your latest file will automatically be selected. If you have multiple use the drop-down menu to select the network you wish to restore.
  4. Click Confirm, and then Start when ready. The procedure will take about 5-10 minutes depending on how large your network is.
  5. Once the procedure says Done, click Close and go back to your device list and ensure that you have control over your Z-Wave devices.

  6. You may need to do an optimization if devices are not able to be controlled.
